John Hollinger brings you more meaningless nostalgic indulgences due to lethargic boredom. This time in the form of a list of all-time NBA franchises. He includes complex data, statistical analysis, and fan perception.
Lists in sports mean nothing, yet at the same time are magnetic. We love to argue lists on all things sports. Why is that? I’m sure Mr. Hollinger spent countless hours putting together spreadsheets using 82games.com, basketball-reference.com, ABPRmetrics, BasketballValue.com, BellottiBasketball.com, AlleyOop.com, BasketballProspectus.com, etc…
The info and data is out there for any crazed fan to compile any sort of legitimate, and arbitrarily calculated list or conclusion they want to.
In this case it was all for naught. If you notice the top 4:
Lakers
Celtics
Spurs
Bulls
Spurs ahead of the Bulls. Really? Despite the Bulls having 6 NBA titles to the Spurs 4, and oh yeah, a guy named Michael Jordan. Who by the way is still the most popular player in the league. Off the top of my head I could have come up with Lakers #1 and Celtics #2, without analysis or debate. Logically #3 would have to be the Bulls, without question. Mr. Hollinger seems to have educated himself beyond his ability. We just said in our NBA Finals game 4 prediction, simplify the complex.
I admire your passion and work ethic Mr. Hollinger but having the Spurs ahead of the Bulls is almost impossible to dignify with a response.
